Thinking Bigger: 3 Ways To Expand Your Mind

In this podcast episode, Dave and Jonathan discuss what it means to actually think big and how you can start thinking bigger in business.

Key Takeaways:

  • Thinking big is relative. What's big to you today, is most likely small to someone like Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos.
  • Thinking bigger can sometimes be a gradual process. Sometimes you need to 100% believe you can achieve something before you can achieve it.
  • The way Dave increased his "big thinking" was by constantly setting goals to beat his previous best. Once he achieved it and set a new record for himself - this became his new goal. Over time, his thinking on what was possible expanded, and the higher-level thoughts became his new normal.
  • Working hard and taking action leads to results. Consistent action will transform the way you think about things.
  • Losing momentum can set you back in thinking big. Once you start to take less action and see fewer results, you have a hard time believing what you thought was once possible, is attainable anymore.
  • Take things one day at a time and focus on your small victories that continue to build and grow the way you think.
  • To get himself grounded and centered, Jonathan likes to pray and meditate - which helps him zone in on his thoughts around big thinking.

There are people that build rockets and fly them to other planets. Some people own thousands of homes and buildings all over the world. While some have multiple mansions and yachts, others run multi-trillion-dollar companies.

With that being said, don’t cheat yourself by thinking just a few sales per week is amazing. Or X amount of dollars in income is acceptable.

There’s so much more to be had.

All you have to do is open your mind and imagine! Because some of your wildest dreams are other people’s realities.

You’re no different than them!

Without further ado, here are three tips to help expand your mind into thinking bigger:

1) Brainwash yourself to think in abundance.

You can do this by watching inspirational videos or reading motivational articles/books.

Fall asleep and wake up listening to and reading whoever inspires you most.

Look for free tickets to watch your favorite motivational speaker that will be in town.

Completely immerse yourself in doing this to the point where what most people think is “delusional” becomes your normal.

Whatever thoughts come to mind, try stretching it to see what other ideas come into play.

2) Hang around positive people that believe in you and want to see you succeed.

It may only be a few people, but they are all you need.

These people will be a battery in your back to keep you going when things get tough and seem bleak. They will be your constant reminder that you’re destined for greatness.

Surround yourself with people who are where you want to be. These people will remind you that you’re thinking small just by their actions in what they’re doing for themselves.

The great thing is that you will be offering this group the same emotional support you receive. You guys will be forceful energy of positive momentum that cannot be stoped by any other force.

It’ll be almost mystical.

The great thing with these people is, you will be a part of their brainstorms in coming up with ideas to go to the next level. They’ll ask if you want in. And before you know it, you’re on your way to the top.

This also prevents you from having to go through a sales slump. And before you know it, you’re on your way to the top.

3) Set higher goals for yourself and strive for them.

Remember, some people build rocket ships that go far out of our world, the least you can do is hit your new goal.

Whatever you normally accomplish in a week, push for a specific goal to do more. Once that becomes your new norm, push for something higher.

Do this over and over.

It’s always great to work around someone who’s better than you in whatever it is you do. There’s so much to learn from them, and they indirectly raise your level of expectation.

Eventually, you’ll catch yourself trying to either keep up or compete with them. And guess who wins in this situation. Both of you! Read more about raising your standards in sales and life.

Put yourself under the perfect level of stress. You’ll teach yourself what you’re capable of and learn to work and produce more than what you’re used to.

More importantly, learn to act on these ideas. With every great goal or idea you have, immediately come up with a plan on how to execute it. Before you know it, you’ll be building your confidence in sales and in your everyday life.

Executing on Thinking Big

Execution is king. Everyone is full of great ideas but what separates “regular people” from “great people” is execution!

As soon as you come up with a new goal or great idea, come up with a plan to make it work in that same conversation.

Write your plan of execution in complete detail step by step.

Write out which days of the week and the time you will work on it.

Stick to it and get it done!

Expect certain things to be difficult and work through them. If it were easy, everyone would do it.

This is what will separate you and make you great in your field.

Conclusion

Whatever you think is big, ask yourself, “what is bigger?”

Thinking bigger is what allows us to be free and self-sufficient. Whatever ideas you have, think of a way to make it bigger, then properly execute on it.

Don’t cheat yourself on accepting less.

Always keep in mind: Some people lead nations and trillion-dollar businesses. The least you can do is stretch your ideas and dreams to make them bigger.
